AHMEDABAD: Indian Cricket League board member Kiran More on Friday told TOI that the entire ICL body - officials, players and support staff - were thrilled to be back at the Sardar Patel stadium in Navrangpura here.
"The response we got here last month was far beyond our expectations. It is like coming home," he said.
More said that they did not have problems with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh in Hyderabad or anything, as reported in a national daily.
"The logistical problems we were facing while organising our tournament at different centres were getting pretty dificult to handle. Travelling back and forth with bags, players, officials and other staff was getting really tirresome. Ahmedabad, and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation who have given us their wholehearted support, have solved all our headaches. We have come here to stay."
Though the ICL matches were shifted to Ahmedbad at pretty short notice, word got around quickly and there was a good crowd on hand to watch two of the championships' biggest crowd-pullers, Lahore Badshahs and Dhaka Warriors, do battle here on Friday.
The ICL World Series which starts on November 23 will also be played in Ahmedabad. Four teams - ICL India, ICL Pakistan, ICL World and ICL Bangladesh will compete with each other at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Navrangpura.
The prize money corpus for this world event is a whopping Rs. 2.74 crore. The winners of this tournament stand to gain Rs 1.25 crore and the runner-up will cash in Rs 75 lakh. The financial incentive for every win at the league stage will be Rs 10 lakh. Individual performances will not be ignored.
The Man of the Match will get Rs 2 lakh. Inzaman-ul Haq will lead ICL Pakistan, Chris Harris ICL World, Habibul Bashar ICL Bangladesh and R Sathish ICL India. Executive board chairman Kapil Dev said: "The level of cricket at ICL is on an ascendancy mode. In the ongoing ICL 2020 championship , we saw our boys come out with stand-out performances."
Himanshu Mody, business head, said: "It is a fullfilling experience to see the ICL make rapid strikes in terms of growing bigger and better in only its second year of operations. Multiple venues, additional teams, an improved player base and to top it all, a very impressive prize money to be won, should make the tournament an enthralling experience for both - the players and cricket fans."
